I stand by my statement, DC can not be used to drive a transformer, period.
Every textbook I have ever seen says this. No further explanation is needed.
If it is pulsating DC then it is not DC, something has messed with it and has nothing to do with the statement above. It is now GPIC!

Ringing in a transformer happens from a sudden stoppage of current flow, this is from the decaying oscillations of the magnetic flux cutting through the windings of the transformer. Ringing a transformer is also how you test it.

Also I would like to stay with answering questions about Trucks as I really do not like to argue about theory as it seems to be changing daily anyway.

I try to give the simplest explanation possible as most of the posters that ask questions do not even know the difference between AC and DC or what voltage the truck even runs on and that is changing again for the first time since 1956. They are also going to do away with the starter and alternator and make it all part of the flywheel something like how a lawn mower charges its battery.

Yes, I do hope that when they change operating voltage they agree on an industry standard like they did with twelve volts. I have heard a lot about 48 volts, but then I keep hearing (reading,) about other possible voltages.
