About 6 weeks ago, I started a thread asking for help and info on how to patch my left front cab corner. I got some good input, which I put to use. I didn't get the impression that very many folks had done this, though. So I added an album to my gallery to show how a novice does it. Enjoy. Pardon my crappy welds. I'm putting a lot of faith in bondo.
re: mysterious holes in the middle of the panel. Mid Fifty said the pattern panel that was provided to the overseas producer had come off a truck with a side mounted radio antenna. They were told to not put the holes in, but they did it anyways. Had you used a flush filler, a little on dolly hammer work after would have removed the sinks. The metal shrinks when heated and needs to be stretched back out after.
Good job! I hope you fixed that rust in the underpanel before you put the skin back on.
Good job Randy and thanx for taking the time to outline what you did. That's the kind of info that helps us all.
Ya gotta feel proud of the work when it all comes together like that.
Cleco: a temporary fastening device for sheetmetal work. inserts through an 1/8" hole drilled thru both pieces with an insertion tool, when released it pulls the two pieces tightly together by spring action. Think of them as temporary reusable pop rivets.
Nice job...I was especially interested in your psot since this is on my list of things to do and I was wondering about the quality of the Midfifty panels.
