I have 2000 without a trans temp on the dash cluster. I have Auto Meter Phantom pyro and boost guages in my pillar. I'm looking at getting a 3 gauge piller and a trans temp gauge to match the others.
Has anyone installed a transmission temp gauge? (Thats a dumb questions b/c I know someone has) How involved is it? Will I be drilling holes in my trans pan or is there already a spot there for it and I just hook it up? How do they hook up?
I just had a new trans installed and I want to keep a close eye on it. May could have prevented my other one from burning up had I had a temp gauge installed.
Its not to hard, and no, you will not have to drill any holes in your transmission pan. There is a bolt that you rermove on the driver side on the trans and plug in your probe. If you have only a one wire probe, you can not use teflon tape sealer, but if you have a two wire probe, I would use some teflon pipe tape to seal it.
I did a three gauge install, Pyro, boost and trans temp. The trans temp is easy. You should have some directions or you can get them at one of the web sites of the venders here, sorry but I can not remember which one.
I placed my temp probe in the bolt hole above the pan on the drivers side just below and in front of the plate that holds the drive selector cable. When you remove that bolt, you will have time to place the probe before the trans oil starts to flow out of the hole.
