Well, you are never really finished, but I am pretty close to being done with the paint on our project truck.
It figures that it was the hottest week of the year, but we got thru it. It took us over 3 days to get this step done, from wet sanding the second time, to clear coat. Of course, we are on month 20 for the entire project
Here is a picture before we put it back together;
Here are the photo galleries, from the second round of wet sanding thru
till clear coat.I will have more when it is back together & the tires are on it, etc... My goal now, is to have it on the street, (Legally) by Sept 1.
I am working on finishing up a mustang I painted last weekend in the heat in humidity, so I know what fun it is. I had a cracked cup on my gun I didn't notice prior when I went to clear. Ended up putting first coat down with old sharpe conventional that I couldn't get a full pattern out of. Try finding a cup at 8 pm on a sunday. Went to walley world and bought a gravity feed gun and nabbed the cup off it. Returned the gun a few days later. It was not fun spendind most of a weekend in a hot and humid garage and I was fighting between not getting dry spots due to the weather and the activator I had, and getting runs. The small pattern/ conventional gun really used up a lot of the clear. Looks like after buffing I am going to be able to save most of it. I'll be repainting above the moldings on a few panels, but not so bad now, most of the paint work is done and should be able to begin reassembly soon. It has finally cooled off a lot around here, after three weeks straight of hot and muggy weather.Its unbelivable the amount of masking to do the stripes and mouldings, mustang name a different color. It took me a good deal of the weekend to get paint on it, and I was getting a touch irritated after so much time sweating bullets. Add to that, I hardly ever get visitors, but that weekend my dad, the cars owner, and the cable guy trying to sell me cable stopped by. Yeah the cable guy went right out into the garage. You can imagine what i had to say to him. Your truck looks good. Looks like you had quite a bit of spraying and masking to do in hot weather too. I'll try to remember to post a few pics of the stang when I get it finished up. I have a couple months working on it, but it has been part time after work and weekends. I had minor bodywork, removed majority of the parts, and primed the whole thing, so ended up sanding the whole car three times. Once the original paint, then the primer, then wetsanded the whole car for buffing. The sanding never seems to end doing this work.
Nice job Rocket.Did you start with a black base coat? You looked a little tired in a couple of the pics, but worth it .Your hard work has really paid off. Is this going to be a show truck? I like the way you painted the drive shafts. I have never seen it done with the candy cane stripe. Enjoyed the pictures.
Heres the mustang painted in the heat. I now have it just about put back together after this weekend, at least what I can till I paint the mouldings and quarter window trim I have left to do. Looks like the heat got me a little, there is a little solvent pop on the hood. Paint was drying so fast, the top must not of stayed open quite long enough to let solvents escape. I'll probably eventually fix it, but its gonna half to do for now. Go figure, 3 straight weeks of hot and humid weather, and its finally back in the 70's again. How you doing? sept 1 is right around the corner.
