1965 mercury stepside

I would like to drop the front end, what are my options? I would also like to remove the behind the seat fuel tank. Is there a tank i can mount under the rear frame? I have seen a 77 stepside with a rear tank would this fit?

John, Check the archives for detailed info on both these subjects. The tank swap is not complicated and many use a Mustang tank. Ford changed the width of the rear of the frame between 72 and 73 and the axle housing. Later model tanks will not fit without fabrication. There are tanks available that sit inside the left fram rail between the frame and drive shaft. The fill spout comes out the side in front of the fender. This is the setup I am considering for my style side. I'd use the original cap and rubber grommet instead of the filler flap. Dropping the front is also fairly easy. Couple of options are 15 inch wheels with 60 or 50 series tires, modified coils, www.eatonsprings.com and or dropped I Beams. I don't have a supplier for the dropped I beams, but that info is here. OR! You could clip the truck or install one of the front suspension crossmember kits such as Fat Man.
