96 F150 4x4 front transaxle problems
Need some help to send me in the right direction. Truck just started to make some serious noise, like some tension building up & snapping loose, over the last couple days. It is a little like running over something small on the highway. Front axle is hot, grinding noise comes & goes (after driving 27 miles home @ 50 -60mph). Truck seems to be steering well. Since it seems to be coming from the front, & the axle is hot, I suspect something is rotten in the 4 wheel drivetrain on the front axle/transaxle. Where do you rec. I start & what should I be looking for?
