4.0 Timing chain

4.0 Timing chain

I heard that the new or newer 4.0 have a very long timing chain possibly 6 feet in length. Is this true and if so is there any negativeness concerning this?

SOHC Time chain

True, the SOHC 4.0l has Chains driving the over head cams. There was a problem with the engine in the Explorer when it was put in in the late 90's. It wasn't put into the Ranger until late2001, and really until 2002. The problem had been fixed by then and I don't know of any problems in Rangers. Most find the engine powerfull, with good economy and trouble free. There is a post in the technical thread at the top of the form it your interested in learning more.
