2.9 to 4.0 swap problems

I'm working on installing a 4.0 V-6 from a 92 Explorer into a 1989 Bronco II.

I have the wiring harness, computer, and all the goodies from the Explorer to make the swap. The problem I have is where the large round plug at the fire wall hooks up.

It will plug right in, but several of the wires are not the same, and some do not look to be in the same location in the plug.

I looked at my local Ford dealer for a diagram to show me which wire did what and what the colors were for each wire. Guess what? They threw thier old books away.

I have headlights, no park or tail lights. I have no power going to the computer or ignitions system with the switch on.

Any ideas where I can get a picture of that large plug on the drivers side and what the wiring diagram for each vehicle should be? I think with that I can make this thing run.

Or has anyone else done this swap that I might could chat with?

Thanks now for any help.

Roy

I've got a buddy at work who's working on this swap (4.0L from my old '92 Explorer into his '88 Ranger 2.9L). He's having similar problems on the wiring, and he found the diagrams at the library. They may have the license for Chilton's online manuals at your local library. Everything is physically going in fine, but the wiring is a pain. Don't know what we'd do without decent diagrams.

i got the same problem you got mine is 89 ranger 2.,9 to 91 mazda
i have no spark at comp no spark at fuse box im thinking that the wire harness from comp that goes to the firewall plugs in it has 6 wires but it plugs into 4 wires im going to try replacing the wire harness that goes from the fuse box across the head lights to the big plug on firewall because of the 6 wire plug in and 89 hasa 4 wire did you figure why yours is not working if so tell me what u did

We got the swap done last week, and it runs great. It's an excellent swap.

My involvement, however, was mainly beer-related. My friend is an instrument tech, and his approach was to abandon the big plug entirely. He brought over the computer from the '92 4.0L, but cut out the plug. He direct-wired everything, and really only dash instrument wiring made it through the firewall.

Once again, his best resource for wiring was factory wiring diagrams he got on line at the library. He's an instrument tech with 20 years of experience, and it still drove him nuts.
