Our 2005 F-250 has started to shake violently on the highway after hitting a moderate size bump. The entire truck shakes and bounces and is quite scary when you're doing 70 mph. Braking does not help - in fact, it seems to make it worse. The shaking finally stops after 20 seconds or so. I've brought it back to the dealer and they look at me like I'm crazy. It seems like it's getting worse now - it happens when going over smaller bumps. Any ideas? Thanks!
I wouldn't be driving it, and I'd be looking at front-end suspension components like ball joints, etc. for a failure. Jack the front end up and try tilting the front wheels up and down, perpendicular to the length of the truck. I suspect you'll discover some endplay on one of the front wheels...
Note that shaking is only irritating. The loss of a wheel/tire at 70mph can be at the least harrowing and at the worst fatal.
The source is most likely either the upper tie rod end at the pitman arm or the ball joint on the axle to which your track bar attaches. Have these checked for play.
I have heard of numerous people with this problem, one of the ladies I know here is selling her truck because of it, I would take it back to FORD before you have many miles on it and get a new or different one, once they have it, it seems to stay with the truck. I have heard of some rotating the driveshafts 180 degrees, and having good results, nobody seems to know why.
