back up sensors

hello everyone that support this great site ! i have 01 7.3 4x4 excursion and my backup sensors system will not work ,i try to turn it on and will not work .most people will not use this system because they have to turn it off when they hook up a trailer or a boat,I also own a boat but at the same time have littleones riding bikes and small kids around the house all the time and i found that without this system is hard sometimes to backup .please help me to find a solution !!.does anyone knows how to test this sensors? or how to diagnostic the main switch? maybe a blow fuse ? the light on the switch is on all the time !!,when i try to turn it on ,it will not turn on, and the system wont work.thank you again for you great support.

Mine don't work either. The light in the switch stays on all the time. When the weather cools I will start checking mine out. Jim

I don’t know how I’d drive my Ex without them. Because of the size I never pull forward into a parking spot but using the sensors I can easily back into a spot (up to 6 inches from the car behind me) in full traffic and without turning around. The only problem I’ve ever had is that if the sensors get dirty they stop reading properly in direct sunlight. I’ve seen some really cool aftermarket systems that digitally show how far you still have behind you. If my OEM system ever gave me a problem I would investigate using the OEM sensors with an aftermarket system. Nothing like a good excuse to upgrade!

I have a 2001 Excursion XLT and would like to add back up sensors. Are there any aftermarket sensors recommended?

I do the same thing as I am sure a lot of the guys here do. If I ever had too much time on my hands I thought of adding a pair or two of sensors to the front bumper (aftermarket or OEM) with a driver activated switch, I think it would be a usefull mod. There are times when it is not praticle to back-up into a parking space--parking garage or angled/one way parking. Just a thought.

I wish I could help recommend a brand but it’s still a few down on my wish list unless the factory set stops working. I looked on ebay for just for kicks and there are a lot of options. As a matter of fact I think I will have to add the rear camera with display mirror to my list!

Xhunter that is an awesome idea, when we go to the beach I frequently parallel park and would kill for sensors in the front.

Here is another crazy idea… I know a lot of the sensors work using radar, is there a way to tie the OEM sensor array into a radar detector?
