I saw a couple of months ago that LMC had a 38 gallon tank for all 73-79 Fords. Has anyone installed one of these? any luck with them or just stick with the old small one.
ive been thinkin about getting that tank for my 76, being that I'm missing the front tank and attached hardware. all it has is the stock 19 gallon rear tank, which doesnt get far feeding a 429
If I remember correctly they sent an extension for the fuel pick-up and for the float. You put that on to the stock sender. It will read full until tank is half empty(19 gallons left). Then the gauge will start to read. You have to remember that 1/2 tank was 9.5 gallons not 19, and so on. My fuel gauge hasn't work in a couple of years that is why I am not positive.
I'm not sure about the reason for the more expensive vent tube towards the rear. Mine is towards the front. Only problems I had is paying the fuel bill!
When I put the tank in gasoline was about $1.20 a gallon on EXPENSIVE days....
I am installing a LMC 38 gallon tank in my truck and don't know exactly what to do with the "extra" stuff. They sent along a couple copper tubes and wires. I guess I could make a crack pipe?
I called LMC and they were no help, so I am turning to you guys; the real experts.
I am guessing that they are to drop the pump farther into the tank but don't know how or where to put them.
I also cannot get the fuel lines off using the ford A/C fuel line disconnect tool. I think I have one that is too big?
My wife is tired of seeing the truck in the driveway on jack stands, and I sure would like to drive it! HELP!
That stuff is to extend the pickup and the gauge wire. You need it to get the sock on the bottom of the tank or you want be able to use half the gas. You would cut both tubes and silver solder in the extentions.
I cut the lines but it seems like they are aluminum? Does anyone make a pump for this replacement tank? I would feel better with one done professionally than with tube soldered in and the wires spliced.
