hey guys well last night as i was backing into the drive way the belt snap and took out a transmission line with it. my question is how do i relive the tension on the tensioner so i can get the new belt on.
Try a 5/8 or 15mm socket and bar on the bolt head on the tensioner, pull the bar to the pax side so the tensioner rotates and lifts up, slip the belt under the vacuum pump last.
Please put some info in a signature re your truck/van?????
Also check all you pulley bearings and the old tensioner bushing for play. There usually is a reason for why the belt broke.
My last belt broke after only about 25k way short of how long previous belts lasted. Several of my pulley bearings were starting to go which wore the belt out pre-maturely.
Also check the tensioner bushing to make sure it is not worn out. The factory tensioners on the F250 were not very good quality and design and need replacing often. I upgrade mine on my 93' with a heavy duty tensioner assembly as I kept loosing belts with the factory tensioner.
If you have got play in the tensioner bushing the "crowned" pulley on the tensioner won't run parallel to the other pulleys and wear out the belt. It will also wear out all the bearings on the other pulleys.
thanks for the info i did check all the pullys and bearings found out that the pully on the tensioner would not spin very easily so i replace it and got the belt on and it is running great
