Hi guys and gals; just found this site thru google. I have a 1999 E-350 S/duty 7.3 with about 76k on it and have decided to install a new belt; I try to stay on top of things before they break. However, I can't find the adjustment bolt to loosen an idler. I've looked through a bunch of pages here and can't find anything that addresses the issue. Any help would be appreciated.
There is no bolt so to speak. It 1/2" drive end of a rachet. You have to look for the tensioner. At the end of one of the idlers you will see the square were you put the rachet then just turn it and the belt will losen a little bit so slide the old one off.
Hello and welcome to FTE
If your van is the same as my truck - there is no adjustment bolt. It's a spring loaded tensioner with a 1/2" hole in it that you insert a breaker bar into and deflect the tensioner to loosen the belt. It's just under the AC pump with a double roller affair.
Here's a picture of mine looking down on the top of it.
Thanks for the replies; I had found the 1/2 inch drive slot and attempted to loosen the idler, but it seemed to tighten the belt either way that I turned it. I'll go back out and try again.

It's a strong spring. You were probably just feeling the belt tighten up in one direction and the spring resisting you in the other. If I remember right you must move the tensioner in the counter clockwise direction to loosen the belt.
