How about the higher output 4.6L (290 HP) from the Explorer?
The current wheezer 4.6 (230 HP) should not even be available in the S'crew. Mine can't go up a hill empty without downshifting. Trailer towing (4500 lbs.) is an ordeal. Lockout O/D to start, and then it still downshifts to 2nd gear to get up even small hills.
BTW - My truck is "rated" to tow 6500 lbs and has the "tow package", but I would not hook that much up to it unless it was all downhill and with the wind to where I was going.
Yeah. "Rah! Rah! Rah!" Ford has the highest tow rating. I don't give a flip about rating. What I want to know is how does it tow? In a word, lousy.
And I should not have to move up to the 5.4 to tow 4500 lbs.
The current wheezer 4.6 is probably OK in a regular cab. But S'crew buyers should at least get the good 4.6 as the base engine. And my truck is far from a base unit. MSRP was over $36,000. Right at what my CTD Dodge sticker at.
Ford says time and again that it will defend its position in pickup sales, yet puts the second-best engine in its P/Us.
