i squeezed 33" tires under my '00 at stock ride height. they only rubbed during a sharp left. i eventually lifted it however.
i think anything under 33" is ok.
beware, many guys will tell you about mpg loss and how bigger tires can harm this and that but i didn't listen but you will lose some mpg not bad though.
You might try searching around and reading some old posts on this. There seems to be two trains of thought on this, one is that some guys will go as big as they can, without worrying as much about a little rubbing here and there, and the other being more conservative in the tire heigth to insure no rubbing issues, and I can understand both sides of that - we all use our trucks for difrent purposes under difrent conditions.
I am of the more conservative group, I four wheel too much, and IMHO tires are too expensive to have any rubbing issues that could weekend or puncture and ruin one of those tires, I just won't have it. I run 31x10.50's on an 8" wheel, all I have done lift wise is adjusted the torssion bars just a tad. On your 16" wheels you can run 31X10.50X16's, or 265/70??75??? whatever that 265 size is that I think converts to almost 32" tall.
i four-wheel also this is why i lifted it otherwise it would bottom out.
at the time i had just bought my ride and it had the firestone wilderness and yes i was one of those guys that the side wall blew out. ford didn't issue checks for tires yet and i wouldn't go another foot with them.
i got an awsome deal on 295-75-16 bfg all-terrains for $300. i couldn't pass them up even if they did rub a "tad".
i stuck with this size since but did lift it. they look so sweet!
^ Hey I wasn't trying to dog ya on the rubbing thing bro - it's all good, glad you got a lift now....how much lift did you go with...does it still rub?
My opinion on this is if it rubs it doesn't fit. It might work but thats different from actually fitting. Hieght is not the entire equation though, a 33" skinny tire might just barely rub, yet a wide 31" tire will rub all the time so you have to take that into consideration. But based on what frdrngrlvr has said, if the 33" just barely rubs then I would guess (not this is a guess) that probably a 32" or below is the max that will actually fit.
waves,i didn't think you were ******* me but i appreciate you letting me know you weren't!
anyway, i've got 3" of lift now. i need to get some pics on here. i think all you guys would definately likey like!
i'm glad monsterbaby seen my point. i believe anything under the 33" range would be suffice. just don't put on some huge fatties and all should be good.
this all of course if its a 4 wheel drive...of course.
oh and no, it does not rub just sucks a little gas is all.
Alot of people run 33's with a t-bar crank, I don't feel comfortable with anything bigger than a 32, because of articulation, but it can be done, and is all the time.
Tony, I also have a 2004 4wd, and I have 265/75-R16 tires, and I have no rubbing issues at all. They are just a smidge over 31" tall. Like the other guys were saying, though, a 2" torsion crank will allow you to fit 33's
Actually, a 265/75-16 is 32" tall, and about 10.5" wide, at least they are in a BFG AT KO's. I know different tire manufactures have a slight difference in actual size, but acording to BFG's tire chart, the KO's are 32x10.50 in their 265/75-16.
normally 295 is close or equivlant to 33" or more, 285 is 32" or more, 275 is 31" or more, etc. etc. just get out a tape measure! i believe they consider 16" wheels or tires a metric size?
i'm not a big fan of cranking the torsion bars. i would rather deal with a little rub but thats just me!
