I work for Ford and have 6 years to retirement. Ford needs to stop buying cheap parts in order to get reliability, maybe then people will get back into North American cars/trucks. In my 24 years at Ford they have always looked at saving a few pennies per unit to cut cost, but in doing so they cut reliability. J.D. power said people buying Honda, Toyota and so on will experience problems with their cars after 8 years of ownership, i.e. sensors, and anything electrical, not so for the big three it takes 2 years and these problems arise. Ford realy needs to stop trying to get the share holder so much return and start using better quality parts. We at the factory can build good units we just need the parts to last longer. BILL FORD really needs to go his head is so far up his butt it will take the next 2 CEO's to get it out. I do drive Fords but not new ones I always look for a good California one, no rust issues and drive it for 5 years then replace it with another, mainly because of these problems (just read the threads and the problems you encounter with reasonably new units) MY 2 CENTS WORTH
Maybe Ive just been lucky but my 96 150 just turned 135,000 miles an have a 88 Grand Marquies that has 175,000 miles with no issues whatsoever. I have never put a dime in them other routine maintenance. But that staement doesnt hold true to me. JD Power just list several Ford cars the top off ther relaibility list so I think Fords making progress. I am not doubting your post buit I have not had any sensors or electrical with the two previously mentioned vehicles. Toyota has had abunch off emabarassing recalls on there vehicles this year which people seem to never hear about but its true.
I have not had any realibility problems with anyoff my Ford vehicles over the years. Maybe just lucky who noes.
What do you do at your job with Ford? Just curious.

I wasnt ripping on Ford at all. I was just saying that Ford does not need a small car market, they need to focus on trucks and making them more gas efficient. Would'nt it be great to see f250's and f150's getting 20/30 mpg? I also dont believe the hipe about Toyota and Honda. I drove a Saturn up to recently, and got 30 to 35 mpg highway at heavy driving. I put 30,000 plus miles on it in one year and had no major problems. I would like to see a Toyota Camary do that.
Um, yeah, Ford does need to pay attention to their smaller cars. Actually, any cars really. Ditch all the fun stuff, like the DEW platofrm, for stretched FWD cookie cutter cars.
Truck sales are in the tank while the car sales are only down about 7%.
NO diesel Super Duty will get 30 mpgs and an F-150 will be hard pressed to do so even with an I4 diesel. Especially if you pull with either truck.
A friend of mine who has owned many a GM car now has a Corolla. As much as I am not a huge Toyota homer or econobox homer at that, his Corolla is rather solid for what it is. On that note, my stealership owner friend just bought a Corolla as well, mainly as an alternative to the Exploder and its not as optimal family hauler mpgs. He'll gladly take a Ford truck, but this should speak volumes of his impressions of Ford cars other than the RWD products...
All the rice burner companies will always be better at good gas mileage cars. They have alot more experence at building a cars that get great gas mileage and have alot of power.
Are you writing that with a straight face!?! Pure speculation as far as I can tell!
Whats wrong with Fords smaller cars any way. Focus,500 are all excellent cars. They match Toyota in many ways. So whats the deal. The quality gap has narrowed guys an you dont want to admit it. This percieved perfection about Toyota has no basis at all. If you guys wanna believe that fine but inreality no. Ford has to deal with this issue an they have. Ford has two new cars out there the 500 an Fusion. If they were realible anlasted 300,000 miles with no isssues youid say Toyota is better. Oh an by the way I just talked to guy the other day withan 87 Taurus. 252,000 miles the most relaible car he ever had. I am not buying this business about Toyota. People here saysomething they tend to believe it. Consumer reports which I hate recommend Toyota an Nissan as best buys. An you guys believe it letting a magazine tell you what to buy. Like i said all this hot air about Toyota perfect an Ford is not Hogwash.

I am a lift truck driver in material handling, I have worked in body during the tempo/topaz days, went to the truck plant (which is now closed) and worked in final on a number of jobs mostly new vehicle driver
So, because he disgrees with you he's a drunk or drunk? Ahh come on!
Has nothing to do with that he disgrees(sic) with me...........it has to do with I have no clue what he's trying to say.........much like your syntax a lot of times.

I thought you weren't responding anymore???
Sigh.... You keep harping on one thing and one thing only. While reliability IS an important factor in buying a car, it's not the ONLY reason.
Ford cannot match the competition in RWD cars, it cannot match the competition in performance in their FWD cars.
Ford dumps the SVT Focus.....and has no "sporty" Fusion.
The image Ford portrays in their car line (with the exception of the Mustang) is stodgy and uninspiring........your comeback is, "We only need to drive the speed limit"
That statement in and of itself is ignorant.........by using that logic, 3 cylinder Geo Metros are all ANYONE should buy.
The fact is COOL cars are what bring people into showrooms. Why do think Ford has a Fusion as their NASCAR entry???
Ford cars right now actually remind ME of the defunct Oldsmobile brand....just not much there that looks fun. And this coming from a died in the wool Ford fan....though one that feels betrayed by the company concerning their effort.
Dude, just drive a 270HP Toyota, and then drive a 220HP(?) Fusion....THEN come back with an HONEST opinion.
(BTW, the Toy uses more American workers to assemble it than the Fusion uses... )

i think ford cars are boring!!!!!!!!!!!! very unispiring and i would feel like an idiot if a spent money on one.
just take a look at some other brands, like dodge, benz and bmw, you see one of those on the road it atracts attention, they look quality and fun to own and drive, ford looks like they built a fleet of rental cars for a company, boring, unstylish, and not meant to own.
even the stupid little audi's and vw's look way better and smoother.
when poeple spend money for a car, they want to stand back and look at it and felt they did pay money for it, not waste money on it, and they want everyone else to think the same also.
and the people who don't care what they drive, they will buy kia's and corola's anyways no matter what anybody else produces.

Wow!!! Hit the nail on the head..........and even Ford knows it.
How does Ford respond??............With the most IGNORANT ad campaign I've ever seen.
The BOLD MOVES campaign actually embarrasses me.
The woman in the Fusion who pays for the guy in the Mustangs dry cleaning;
The divorced mom picking up dad for a trip in the Escape.....makes me want to puke.
Memo to Ford:
Forget the geigh ads............just build some cars your faithful wants to be seen in.

Good point, but I think a Toyota Camry is about as boring as it gets styling wise, and yet that has been and will remain for a while the #1 car sold in America.

God, Ford by far has the worst commerials ever. The people who are writing these commericals need to be taking out and shot. Who could forget the beep beep song?
