Hi guys I found a 66 stepside in Western Arkansas that needs some repair to the hood. When I open the hood its cocked to one side and you have to wiggle it to make it close straight and then play with the latch to make it close. As my memory serves my uncle told me the mounts had to be welded in. I really want another 65 or 66 but i dont want to give money away on something that needs more work than its worth. I have a really good one at my parents house in VA but heaven only knows when I might have time to go get it.
If your refering to the hood hinges, they are a bolt in item. There is a difference in bolt threads between 61-64 and 65-66 so make sure you get all of the hardware if your bone yard shopping.
Are you saying that when you close it one side is kicked up / open at the fire wall, but you can push it down and make it look right?
If thats the case you just need to re-attach the little "dog bone" in side the hindge. You'll need a pry bar, coat hanger, 6inch C-clamp and some luck.
The dog bone fitts between the two pins. Look at the good side. Use the pry bar to spred the two half of the hinge a little and use the coat hanger to lift the end of the bone and hook it on the pin then use the c-clamp to smush the two back so when you remove the pry bar and clamp there little room for the bone to fall out.
Hope this makes sence.

PS: if it doesn't take a look at other hindge.
the hood is not raised on one side when it goes down. when you close the hood you have to push it to one side and then push it to the other side and then when its all the way down push it back towards the cowl. then push the latch into the hole and push the hood all the way down. its not my truck yet (i'm trying to decide if its worth $1500 or if i should continue trying to convince my mom and dad to come visit the grandkids and tow my truck out from their house in Va to OK) thanks for all your help guys. Don
Don, Try spraying WD40 or something like that onto every moving pivit on the hinges. Raise and lower the hood until it works freely (50 times if needed)spraying again. Sounds to me like they are rust or dry lube bound. I just lay one hand on the front of my hood and down it comes locking in place.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
Well if you don't mind a prop rod under your hood....take the springs out and it will line up perfect... The problem with these hoods is not the hinge its the spring...
Ray, Can you splain the spring thang to me. My hinges need lubing once a year or so, but to me seem to be working like they were designed to.
