go chrome, i went black because of living in the "salt belt" and its also cheaper that way, if i didnt have the winter salt issue to deal with id have chose chrome. it dont look bad though. i made my own rear receiver step, couldnt see paying 50 bucks for a peice of pipe welded to a 2x2 beam when i could build it at work outta scrap. its in my gallery also but difficult to see. i had to lower my step bars they were up against the rocker panels and not useable as steps when ifirst put them on. i wanted them to be functional as well as good to look at. they do get in the way when i slide under to change oil, even with ramps.
RP, I couldn't tell for sure on the shifter, I'm wanting to say yes, because it's still the same tranny.
Alen, your going to hell for even thinking such a sin, a 460 wold be better, and you can get a 460 create motor from ford with 600 hp on gas, personally, I don't think it's worth the time or money, traction would be nonexsistant, to much frontend weight, a small block would make so much more sense. A diesel makes no sense, thier to heavy, and to slow. Like I say, if you love those stinky noisy diesels so much, off the ranger, and go buy a ram. You could for the cost of putting a big block, or a diesel in a ranger. I f you don't stop bragging up chevy and dodge so much, I'm gonna vote to have you expelled, least we forget this is a ford forum hee hee,
Waves, I've found the tru-trac to be king of lsd's, excellent on road manners, even in snow. Torque split is awesome, with a little brake, it will operate as a full locker, but thats only needed if you have one back wheel lifted, with both wheels planted, it grabs, and goes. It's as good, if not better than the torsen, no clutches to wear out, it doesn't need a modifier, I'm really impressed with it, I just wished they made one for the front as well. It's made by detroit locker thats owned by eaton, that should speak for it's strength, and it's operation is totally quit, you don't even know it's there. I have never had a loc-right, but I have had a lot of lsd, and this is by far the best I've ever had, it operates so much more like a locker with out the noise or harshness of a locker. When I had to climb over all those logs that I posted about a while back, it really shined, and made me a loyal costumer for life, I thought for sure the diff, or axle would break, but like a timex, it just kept on ticking.
Thanx Wendell, I've watched a friends (following in another friends jeep) as he did some dry river bed crossings, I could see it biasing the power from wheel to wheel every time one would start to spin...very cool the way it worked, you and he are the only guys I know with them though...just have to decide, I really liked my loc-right..it was a little tricky getting used to in the rain or on slick streets, but with an automatic tranny it's managable - you just have to get used to it and hope nothing is in the way when you are...lol. In any case won't be doing it for at least another couple of months...but it's on the list. Anyway thanks for the opinion...I am leaning that way.
Thats why I decided to go with the tru-trac, sometimes I get street racey, and like to power in and out of the corners, lockers don't like that, they chrip and jerk and get really mad ha ha. The tru-trac loves to power in corners, every once in a while you'll hear a little tire scuff, but very seldom, and there's no jerking at all. Like I say, it will lock up 100% with just a little brake presure, it's like having a locker, and an open diff all in one.
Racsan: have you concidered the level 2 shifter ? It's chrome with a sharp ****, it's also bent, so you don't feel like your knuckles are going to hit the dash. It did feel like it shortened the throws, most likely in my head, but maybe. I'm pretty sure it will fit yours, and Zachs trucks, we all have the M5OD. Ford also sells the leather boot for it, and the shifter base with the aluminum ring and fake rivits, it looks cool. Just a thought since hurst is messing you around. The shifter was around a 100.00, the **** 90.00, so with shifter and ****, it's 200.00, about the same as hurst, you have to look at it that way, or the price of the **** will freak you out ha ha. The leather boot was 39.00,. and the base was a 100.00. You can use your own base, and any shift boot, I just liked the look of the whole deal.
You put that 454 in there I wanna be there Alan, man I love that engine. The 'vette and the old Silverado both had one. Drool drool drool.
Wendell I know you've been having some PM problems, so I'm just gonna post this for all to see. The level 2 shifter you got, any idea if it'll fit the earlier years? Say, oh I dunno, '94?
The 454 is one of GM's engines that gave them the reputation for: "Like a knock", and "Heartbeat of America" ...check out this URL, which I have posted many times before....just thought Zach would benefit from it, since he likes GM so well:
Actually, we had no problems out of the tail or brake lights except the little brake light switch on the brake pedal. The 'vette never gave problems, but both of our older GMs, first the Silverado, then the Sierra we still have would practically eat those things. I don't know if it was just a bad design or what. When we'd pull them off they'd look fine, just wouldn't work well anymore. Not a hard replacement thankfully. All of those issues seem to be corrected on the new Silverado.
The 'vette was completely rewired by my dad, stripped down to the bare bones minimum wiring and electronics required. It was driven to shows and home. It had the original radio (just for looks really), that was probably the single most complicated amount of wiring in the entire vehicle lol.

Contour Contour...that sounds familiar. Is that a Ford?
Yes sir it is. Thanks to Fredric over on the 87-96 F series board I was able to pick it up extremely cheap with little problems. Just a cheap run around car. Not the prettiest, but I don't care haha.
You're just not confident in it enough to ground the Ranger for a few days (when you know that adding a little oil will get the Ranger from A-B and back! lol).
the grill guard went on easy, theres these brackets that clamp around the frame, the bottom of the bracket has a mounting hole and at the top a link attaches that goes thru the front between the bumper and bottom of the grille, attack each side plate (leave loose) then add the center tubes, and tighten it all up. my 2wd didnt need any steps, but this 4x is just high enough that i wanted them (and my 11 y/o likes them as well) if i ran 205 series tires i almost wouldnt need them but it would look silly. 265 series tires were factory available. ('bout the same size as 31-10.50s) 235 isa good common size and not too expensive. jegs called and asked me if i wanted to cancell my order or continue waiting. i just got a e-mail earlier that day from mr gasket co. (the mfg) and they claim it will ship the end of this month, guess i'll wait, whats another month...............
