HI, i`m hoping that someone might be able to help me. I just bought a 65 F100 twin I beam (for only $200)and i knew it was going to be a project. What i`m wondering is that if the original 352 was no good, would a caddy425 fit in it as that i have one all rebuilt , also does anyone sell new floor pans. any info would be helpfull, thanks, Errol
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Sep-02 AT 09:10 PM (EST)]You can put what ever you want in your truck as long as you have enough money to do it. Swapping in a 425 Caddy motor is pretty straigth forward as long as you have the right mounting system. Do you have a trans for it also or are you going to have to adapt the current transmission to it? There is a site online that specializes in making adapters for cross breed drive trains. Type in "Ford 429" into google and it will pop up with in the first 3 pages.
Talk to Jowalker about the floor pans. He practiaclly lives at the place that sells the replacement floor pans. But back to the engine swap, look for some flak from us hardcore Ford guys. Why would you put a weak Generic Motors motor in? LOL
the only reason for the caddy swap is that i allready have the engine and that i`m also a caddy man owning 2 including a 65 conv. BUT i love all cars, well, just old ones. The425 has been totally rebuilt and i have a tranny also but were going to try and get the 352 going-the 425 is just a back-up in case the 352 is shot thanks for the reply and i`ll try to keep it all ford, Errol
Hi Errol, Welcome to FTE, hope you will sit with us for a while. As far as the caddy engine, it will not work, it will cause the truck to start wheezing, coughing, farting, before puking and dying. There is absolutly no reason under the sun to put a non Ford engine in a classic truck. The 352 is in the FE engine family, along with the 360, 390, 427, & 428 I run a 352 in one of my 66s and have a 390 on the stand to put in the other. There are plenty of Ford engines out there to use. Keep your caddy engine for another project.
There are no replacement pans out there, but they are all the same from 65-79 so cutting out one and welding in a replacement isn't too tuff.

John I thought way back in the posts that you mentioned that a company started to make the replacement pans? Oh well must be too many projects and thoughts running through my head.
O.K. say that i decide not to use the caddy motor but the original 352 block is cracked, is their a crate ford that would be a direct bolt in? Were going to get new points and plugs and wires and try to get it to turn over. I`m hoping that the 352 is still good, but it was shooting some nice flames out of the carb when we tried to start it! thanks for the help, Errol
Mark, I was thinking whole floor pans, My bad. Ken has replacement for the 65 up here on line, Carolina Classics make them for pre 65 & 65/66 F350s. Ken said that he was making them also but I don't know if he got them or not. This is the dishpan section from the front of the seat to the firewall.

There are millions of Ford FE motors available and a huge aftermarket for performance parts. I sure as heck would not do the GM swap. Nothing aganst GM either I like all cars and trucks from the sixties on back. Putting in a potent 390 where the 352 is sitting is about a three hour deal and that allows for beer breaks.
IMHO!
