can anyone help me identify some of the options/chracteristics of the rare ranger package on the 1965 f-100. here are my questions: what wheel covers were used? did it have a factory console between the buckets? what type of floor covering was used? any other information would be very appreciated.
The 65 Ranger has, Ranger fender emblems, full carpet, a console, bucket seats, and a fiberglass gas tank cover. The hub caps should be polished SS with black letters.
john, thanks a bunch for the info. i have found one of these trucks for sale and i am thinking about adding it to my stable. help me some more please. specify which wheel covers were oem. and tell me if the carpet was one piece moulded, or several pieces of binded carpet.
my father ordered one new from the factory and an employee promtly totaled it. i cannot remember much about this truck since i was born the same year.
couple of more things. how can i find a production number for the ranger package in 65? and did they offer a 1966 ranger package, i have never seen one on a 66.
Frank the carpet is one piece, I already told you about the hub caps. Some one else will have to help you with production numbers. My book says that 1965 was the first year for the Ranger package. May I suggest that you call Rick or Tom at Carolina Classics
I neither know who you are or where you are, What are you looking to spend on the 65, PLEASE
ok john, i will tell you how much i will spend but you do have to help me with this darn hubcap issue. here we go: dog-dish stainless or the full cover optioned on some 1966? i am assuming the dog dish, but i have never seen a set of the 1965 dog-dish style in stainless. i have only seen them in white and argent only.
this particular truck appears to be an all original 1965 ranger(excluding the pontiac hubcaps) in #3 condition. this truck is running but will need some body repair,(minor-accidents) solid floor, gold and white paint. 1000 U.S. dollars.
NO FULL WHEEL COVERS IN 65! I'm sorry I didn't know how to make you happy. The info thatI have states argent with red on regulars, SS with black on custom cabs.
I saw a 90% or higher 65 ranger go for $15000.00, but the guy had the original window sticker, and sales slip.
again, thanks for the info john, i didn't know much about the wheel cover options for 65. i have a ford truck red book which is supposed to help with codes and options, but it does not mention the ranger package until 1967 production year. i would like to know what sources you are using. the information you provided was really handy on this particular truck.
i think this will make a great truck. i hope my wife does not divorce me after i get it. i have a 1965 custom cab as a daily driver, a 52 f-1 in pieces, and two parts trucks: a 65 and a 66. im hooked, anybody know where i can get therapy?
I am using The Carolina Classics truck parts catalog. Rick Allen and Tom both restore old trucks, go to all the truck meets,(to sell parts) and put little tid bit infos in the catolog.
Hi Frank, Did you buy that truck? It sounds like an excellent buy. I have a 65 Ranger myself and would like to compare some notes with you on your truck. you can e-mail me off the thread if you like at Don.Walker1@worldnet.att.net
Hope to hear from you.
Frank
the buckets are donated from a mustang, rhe console is from a comet or falcon, the gas tank cover can be carpet or abs,all depending on which one of the two plants they were made at. No exact records,or codes exist until model year 68,although you should have a metal tag in the glove box. It is my understanding there were only five color choises, blue, blue interior--green,green--black,black--red,red--black,red interior. But I could be wrong, wouldnt be the first time. good luck
with wife & truck
Tommy
many thanks,.... excellent info. again i must ask where you got your information. tank cover is carpet, does that mean dallas? i have not broken down the vin # yet.
truck appears to be oringinally gold and white. would that be metallic palomino and wimbleton? i guess it could be a special order. i still have not bought this truck. sheet-metal damage still bothers me on this truck. damage is down the length of the passenger side at a pretty low area, yet damage is very substantial. is it worth it just to own a 65 ranger? does anybody have an opinion on just how rare the ranger package is on 65-66 f-100's?
I have been reading these posts with interest as I have yet to see such a truck and there are alot of trucks here in Arizona. My info says that the Ranger option began in 66 and 'included bucket seats color-keyed in red, palomino, beige or black, and an extra-cost center console, plus floor carpeting'. I have nothing on production numbers for either year. For colors, I don't see a gold but there were 2 yellows in both 65 and 66. Two-tone paint combos used Wimbledon white on the roof and around the back of the cab above the beltline; if the body was Springtime yellow, then Wimbleton would be the roof color. But if the body color was Chrome yellow then the roof would be Special white. I believe that this truck is a rare find, especially if it is a Flareside. But the body damage will definitely cut into its value.
I do have a question, did the Ranger option also mean that it automatically came with a Custom Cab?
Ole, I saw a 65 Ranger at the Run to the Rock Ford truck show last year in Blowing Rock NC.
The truck that I saw had the original window sticker and dealer sales slip. The truck was a custom cab therefore it had a two tone paint job. I just can't remember if it was red and white or beige and white. I saw a lot of trucks there that day. The console was a part of the Ranger package. That truck was about as perfect as you could have ever hoped to find one not restored.
Remember in 65 there weren't many options on pickup trucks.
