Im looking at a 66 f100 swb,V8[was told 352],auto.Hasnt run in a while, missing carb&dist, one piece of cowl trim, headlight switch **** but otherwisw ALL there, needs floor but only surface rust elsewhere.Needs typical restoration for southern truck.Custom cab trim all there has orig seat cover on it.White/blue int.Am radio.Motor turns over but unknown.Worth $1500?Truck is very complete just needs work.Brian
Brian, I would need more info or to see the truck, but on what you have described, I'd say more like a $500.00 truck. A 66 needs to be running and fairly solid to make $1500.00. IMHO of course

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Apr-02 AT 01:21 AM (EST)]It really depends on what part of the country your in (I'm in Texas, Houston area). I got my '62 for 600$. It ran (after a little carb work) and was drivable. It was complete minus the original seat, and a hole cut in the instrument cluster for a tach. And of course it has the hole in the dash for a radio that I swear someone cut with the dull end of a claw hammer.
I am in Arkansas.Truck looks like it will run,"rebuilt" heads & is unmolested body-wise.But it needs everything-paint,headliner,seat cover, mat, floor repair. It is all original V8 auto, sold here new.Has two minor ents & no rust thru other than floor. No way to send pics.Really dont feel more than $1000 but wanted second opinion.Brian
This thread is especially interesting to me right now, as I'm seriously considering purchasing a 66 F100 (6cyl auto stepside). The seller is asking $2k and claims new auto trans, new brakes, minimal surface rust, and otherwise all original.
I'm in Houston, and the truck is in Austin, so if I can't drive it home I won't even consider it.
Myself, I wouldn't think of paying alot for a truck missing the carb and distributor, unless I only wanted it for parts. Tons of stuff can be wrong, rearend, motor, trans, etc...If you want a driver, you are MUCH better getting one you can at least start and see if it can move under it's own power. These trucks are easy to work on, but how many problems and how much $$$ do you want to spend???!
1500 is high! Take the time to look at the fornt axle make sure you dont have any broken u joints or axles. Check the drive shafts, parking bake cables ect. I have a 66 lwb 4x4 and paid to much for it. The above mentioned were a few problems I found with mine. If you are happy after a good look see then buy the truck. As we all know if you want it bad enough you will get it.

I just bought a 66 for 2000 and its in great shape 429 front disc good paint. I am replacing tranny now and radiator thats another 700 so calculate everything before you buy.
These trucks are not only becoming rarer but also demand is increasing as Hot Rod trucks are becoming very popular. It is becoming possible to replace nearly every part with aftermarket as the NOS parts are drying up. Get the model you want with as many good useable parts as possible. In my case my 66 will be a pretty nice piece when I'm finished and most of the parts will be replaced as far as trim and running gear so the major metal was important when I bought it, although the truck was very complete. My 74 is a daily driver and I used the trim as I bought it but replaced the motor/tranny and gradually most of the other mechanics for reliability. The body is far from perfect but like a rough ol' girl she looks pretty good from a distance and in dim light. If you want to drive it daily get a good solid reliable truck and don't pay too much. If you want a keeper to go to the F-100 Nats etc then get what you really want and remember what it will cost in 10 years when they really become coveted by the gear heads.
