I was told this truck had a 390 in it, and that it had been bored .030 over. I think I verified the bore work b/c I can see the pistons are stamped .030 on top. The front drivers side of the block is stamped with two numbers, 31 over 352. Does this mean this is a 352? If so, and it is bored .030 over, what would the cubic inches be roughly? My last question is whether or not it is worth spending any more money on this motor, or should I find a true 390(assuming this is not). Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys for helping out a new comer.
So how do you tell the difference b/w a 352 and a 390? No,
I don't have the heads off but when piston #1 is TDC I can see
the .030 on it. I have noticed alot of the parts for these two engines
are exactly the same. Can somebody help me figure this out short of removing the heads and measuring the cylinder?
jg, the easiest way is to measure the stroke. Drop a white jacketed wire through the spark plug hole. Have a bud turn the engine with a socket wrench while you mark the wire with a Sharpie. Measure the length of the mark and post it back here. We should be able to help then.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
The block is stamped C6ME-A(I think, it is hard to read). The heads are stamped C8AE-H. The intake is an Edelbrock aftermarket. I am trying to get my hands on someone to help me check the stroke length. Thanks for all your help.
ya i had the same problem but mine was a 360 with a 352 stamped on it. i found out there all the same blocks and the diffence between a 360 and a 390 was the stroke since they have the same bore and the 360 valves are actually bigger than the 390. i had my 360 bored .30 and stroked with 390 crank and rods. it has unbelievable power you have a good motor either way
