I have read alot about synthetic oil and other brands of regular oil on this site but haven't recalled anyone say anything about Fords Motorcraft 15W-40 oil. Is there something I'am missing? Don't want to use the wrong oil. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.
NavyPowerstroker: Since I hadn't seen anyone mention they were using Motorcraft oil, I was wondering if there was a problem that I didn't know. I'am glad to hear that many people use it because that's all I have used for the last 3 years. I know the dealers use it but wanted to check with the real experts on this site. Thanks for the reply.
I used Motorcraft 15W-40 from day one through 50,000 miles.
No problems and all Blackstone oil analysis reports came back fine.
I chose to switch to Rotella-Syn (5W-40) for better cold weather operation and better turbo bearing protection (the whole synthetic story/marketing stuff). For the most part, it was for better and quicker cold weather benefits.
Motorcraft 15W-40 is a good oil and carries the newest oil rating of CI4+.
As long as you any oil that is CI4+ rated you will be fine (dino or synthetic)... but since your question was about Motorcraft... use it and enjoy!!!!
03f250...Motorcraft 15w40 is what I use mainly because I have a maintenance plan and that's what the dealership puts in my truck. I think it might be a blend. I meant to ask yesterday, but forgot...For the most part Motorcraft Oil has always been excellent.
I did ask the service manager about using synthetic's and he said that he had no problem using full synthetic as long as it had the proper ratings(like Beachbumcook said) and a maintenance log with receipts were kept to show the change intervals and type of oil/oil filter used.
Motorcraft obviously does not produce the oil ,only has it repackaged. Does anyone know who the real producer of the oil is. Would it be something if it were quaker state or something you would not consider using in your lawn mower.
Many times if you look up the MSDS for the oil the real producer of it will be listed. I researched a lot of the motorcycle oils back a few years ago and found that the Yamalube I was using at the time was made by Citgo, the Honda oil I looked at was from Valvoline if I remember right.
Conoco-Phillips makes Ford's oils. My father-in-law is VP of Operations at the main plant that produces the oils. There are only two locations that make it currently because they have temporarily shutdown the other unit to focus more on gas production.
a good friend of mine (ase certified mechanic and a ex employee of chevron) and i compared dello and motorcraft. we prefer the motorcraft. the main reason is it provides better idle quality.
keep it ford
