Just to make sure:
On a 89 F150, 2wd AOD.
Stock E7 or gt40 heads.
Homemade CAI.
Stock intakes.
Minimum overbore 9-9.5 comp.
RV with less than 114 degrees.
Summit shortys y-pipe to 2.5 single.
Will the SD suport this without issue? What gains can I expect, anything else to consider, thanks Matt.
I originaly put on a set of those summit shorty headers and could not get them to line up with the stock y-pipe. I threw them in the trash. Recommend Bassani headers and the y-pipe they sell for the F-150. While they do cost a little more, they are worth it.
If you use the Summit shorties, you may need to dimple the sides fo the tubes where the bolts will not slide in straight. I had to dimple three of the tubes to get the bolts to go in straight. With the new y-pipe, you can probably get them to line up correctly and then weld the cat pipe on after you have the y-pipe set.
the summit brand headers are hit or miss with quality. i had a set to and traded them off quick. they to didnt line up with the stock Y and i had leak issues due to the pour flange construction.
Gibson, jba, edelbrock, bbk and bassani all are great quality headers. i am sure you can find one of those brands in your price range. If you can get the Bassani Y pipe do it, the stock Y is very restrictive and hinders power.
also for a cam it must have a lob seperation no Less then 114* i know you typed this but left out the NO . Call compcams let them know what you got going an they can help.
Thanks kemicalburns, I was hoping you're check in. I've got a builder 302 I'll start tearing down here pretty soon. Let you all know how it goes. Thanks again, Matt.
