How much does the MAF swap help?
Just picked up an 89 F-150 302 AOD 2wd. Looking to do some mild upgrades, better gearing in the 8.8 maybe a little work on the AOD and some basic engine work. How much does the MAF swap help? I'll probably do a mild rebuild. Minimum overbore, stock or junkyard gt-40 heads, summit headers and an rv cam. I read here that you can't go with more than 112 degrees seperation with the SD, is this true? For these kind of mild mods is the SD that bad? This is a 2wd truck that will see mostly light duty, no heavy towing. I'd like to keep everything as simple as possible without shooting myself in the foot performance wise.

try 114* lob sep with speed density some have used 112* but i wouldnt recommend it. thats were mass air comes in. it gives more choices in cams unless you get a custom grind made. all of the mods you mentioned will run fine on speed density.

Thanks for the reply. The swap is pretty expensive and for as mild a build as I have in mind I don't think it's needed. To be honest I think the 302 is a poor choice for a truck motor but in a light duty 2wd it should be ok. Thanks again, Matt.

check out www.fordfuelinjection.com for cheaper harness's for doing MAF swaps. but you are correct that your list of mods doesnt require running MAF.
