i dont usually post questions here, as i post mostly in the 7.3 forum. however i do browse this section too. this question is more of a truck question and not so much a engine question, so i will post it here.
my truck has a total 6.5"F 4"R lift, and with stock lariat wheels and 33" nitto terragrapplers, it looks plain funny. i love the tires however, they work great for the little non-pavement my Queen sees, and they are not loud at all. i know what wheels and tires i want, however i keep jumping sides as to what size i want. i know for sure it is going to be atleast 18". i like the look of a big wheel in a big wheel well, and not a huge amount of tire sidewall. however on the contrary i dont want it to look "ghettoish" (in use for a non FTE word *read rastus* )
i do not want to get 18" tires and wish i would have gotten 20's, however i do not want to lay down alot of money for 20's and then think they are "ghettoish", because that is the LAST thing i want to have my truck look like. price is not really a factor here, it's a big investment and i dont mind spending a few hundred for what i wanted in the first place, and even when tire replacement comes along.
i have decided on MotoMetal951 wheels and 35" OD Nitto terragrapplers.
i am not a fan of the big wheel, lower profile look everyone seems to be doing these days. to me its just street "bling bling" or whatever someone wants to call it.
to me i wouldn't go past 17", and thats just because the 16.5" never were worth the darn anyways.
anyways, don't forget to look at tire availability and costs also, i am not sure about the availibiltiy for those sizes you want, but i hae heard about people's complaints on not being able to find a size to fit 18" so readily.
my vote was for the 18" though just because i don't like the looks of huge oversize rims.
If you drive on the payment most of the time, I'd go with with the 20s. The Toyo A/T's and Nitto A/T's still allow you to have the Load E range for your heavy duty hauling in plus sizes. The only prob. is forking over the cash to buy new tires when they wear out. Mine are getting there, I got a local quote from Les Schwab at $365 a piece for 325/60-20 (35s) Toyo A/Ts w/o tax. Ouch.
I vote for 15" wheels. I'm Gonna have to have them made but that's what I like!!
Mobey, I don't think the 15-inchers would fit over the front brake rotors unless your backspacing spaces the wheel out far enough...then your wheels would be sticking out too far.
The present trend is big wheels, even the auto-makers are following suit. Who ever thought they would be rolling 20 and 22 inch out from the factory. Since this has happened the prices for these sizes have gone down. You can get 20's for the same, if not much more than 18's. Get more bang for your buck, I vote for 20's. Our superduty's are big, they need rims to match!!!!

Either one will look fine. 18" or 20" wheels w/35" off-road tires don't have the same "bling effect" that a Navigator or Escelade has with the same size wheels and smaller diameter, lower profile tires. A 35" tire still has enough sidewall on an 18" or 20", that it looks fine. Their "shininess" and design still makes them look pimpin' (I never thought I'd have use for that word), but not gaudy or ghetto. The Super Duty is also big enough that an 18" or 20" really doesn't look as big. Especially on a CC w/6"+ of lift.
Truck's looking good. Makes you wonder why Ford didn't just make them like that to begin with. (But you're right, it needs some more meat in the wheel wells.)
thanks for the opinions guys. i was leaning towards 20's since the beginning of thinking about new wheels. i wanted some opinions of what other superduty owners like.
now to the next part, looking for a place that mounts and balances the tires. sure i can buy the wheels and tires seperately from ebay readily, but i think my local tire guy might scratch a new 20" rim trying to put it on. any good places you know of on the internet that sells and mounts packages?
I do not care for the 20" wheels personally, but i would get them just for the tire options... i have 18" and I hate the tire selection available to me.
20's for stock size tires with no lift. It seems to add the basic "lift" into the wheel/tire combo without separating the undercarrige from the body. A well designed aluminum 20 will reduce weight without the "bling" of chrome.
For an aftermarket lift (2-4/ 6 inches inches max) I would like 18's with a med size tire 33-36, not too wide, but taller.
I am glad I picked the 06 250 PSD w/ the factory 20's, no regrets with the white/Arizona beige color.
