Could someone tell me if you can put 1-ton rear leaf springs onto a 1/2 ton frame? I am getting a 1-ton donor truck and was wondering if it was possible since I need new springs on my half ton. Both trucks are 1979 models.
If you measure everthing out I guess it could work. I did that once on a van and the back end sat so high I had to put in 1 ton coil springs in the front.I didnt save any money.
I replaced my 150 4x4 rear leafs with a new "heavy duty" set from Bronco Graveyard. They are supposed to measure same as stock. I could barely get the shocks back on. I had to jack the axle a little to get the lower mount in. I ended up removing the stock 3" rear blocks and the truck settled almost level.
Going by my 1971 and later 80s/90s trucks and for the fact that 78-79 (4x4s) were unique years and I never owned one I say this.
It depends on what year to what year and what model to what model and if it is a 2x4 or 4x4. So ... basically you have to measure. With both being a 1979 I would say unlikely for it to be a bolt on with your 1/2 ton being a F-100/F-150 because the rear hangers/springs are so narrow and hung differently then a F-350.
If you remove everything from the donor truck, including the axle because the spring seats are spaced different (wider), it should work.
