Ok this is my second post and this time is the real deal i bought a 2002 f-250 psd 7.3 2x2 crew cab long bed with 40k miles. Most of my driving consists of highway driving but occasionally i haul a trailer. I need to get advise on getting a programmer or chip, exhaust, and intake. I want to know if you guys would advise on getting a exhaust made from a muffler shop? I estimate that im getting 17-18 mpg and most of it is freeway like 80% and im trying to aim for 21-22 mpg. is that possible? Any help would be appreciated. Also im thinking of putting a 8"-10"lift kit and i know its going to hamper the mileage but i want to see what i can do to better the mileage? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Welcome piper, this site has a great search feature. Just about everything you requested to know is somewhere in this forum. Just search search search, thats what I do.
welcome to FTE Piper350. you say you have a 2x2, do you mean a two wheel drive truck or a four wheel drive truck? i dont think you can get a big lift like that on a 2wd. first you say you want 21 mpg, and then you say you want 8" lift. it's one or the other buddy, you can keep it stock height with stock tires and get 20mpg with a little foot, or you could go all out and show the truck off and not give a crap about mileage. that's what i do. i take what mileage it gives me.
anyway, for a short list of things to search for:
"kwik" 46637/6637 air filter
CCV mod
Wicked Wheel compressor wheel
4" turbo back exhaust.
BTS transmission valve body
DPtuner or TS performance multi-position chip
i would not get an exhaust system from an exhaust shop, most can go to 3" pipe and cannot mandrel bend that large. i have seen 4" systems from $275
Some people are getting 20 mpg, i am getting 18-19 on the highway. The lift will really kill that. Also once you start adding exhaust and chip your millage will go down as you can't help pushing the peddle down. You can do the kwik mod for the intake, alot of people including myself have done it cause it is easy and cheap to do. Exhaust, either 4 or 5 inch from one of the sponsors for a couple hundred shipped depending on what size and brand. They are pretty easy to put on, the hardest part was getting the stock out. I just ordered a chip from jody at dp tuner. Just about everyone on this site says his chips are second to none. It is a flip chip that will let you have up to 16 different settings with a digital display. People have claimed 4 mpg increase with it, we'll have to see. Also make sure you get some gauges to monitor everything. I spend hours searching for things before i ask cause almost everything has been covered before. Goodluck

Im sorry its a 4x4 .yeah i asked it is possible to do the 21 mpg and have a 8" lift but i'm not that informed on what is and isnt feasible which is why i came on to this forum.
It would be cool to have your cake and eat it to!!!
ponch373000- thanks for the advise maybe it would be best for me to go on and look for the things on the website. Thanks guys for the advise
piper don't waste your time using the search function it doesn't work very well. actuallty it works too good so you end up wading through too much info. strokinit gave you the laundry list of good mods. and he is right you can have a lift or mileage but not both. the wind drag and tires you would be turning will greatly reduce your mileage. and perfomance mods aren't really going to help much either as other have said its hard to keep your foot out of the throttle once you have more power and more noise. you can use the search to get more info out about twhat stokinit said and you will have lots of reading!

If those estimates are good, don't touch it and motor on with a smile. My opinion is that you will never see 21-22 all around or 80% freeway once you put the oats in it. You simply cannot resist the loud pedal.
But if you ever get into a well modded truck, you will hate your stock 17-18 mpg unit and never want it to be that way again.
