71 F100, 373 RE, engine and trans from a 87 Crown Vic. Adjusted TV cable by the book. 1& 2 shift not bad but 3rd and OD seem early and I cruise along at 40 in OD @ 1300 RPM.[lugging] Any ideas folks? Thanks in advance.
Yes on the SEFI & EEC-IV. The TPS is OK and within limits. There is no vac modulator that I know of. The gov is a good thought. Any way of checking it out without tearing it apart? Speed sensor I don't know anything about!!
I would adjust more throttle valve pressure. The OD is not supposed to come in until 45 mph. Use a pressure gauge on the TV port if you have access to one.
Thanks instig8r63, I did adjust the cable about 3 clicks each way and it didn't seem to make a change. I guess a pressure gage is the way to go. Any idea what the gov does ?? Thanx again,
OK!! I moved the adjuster block fwd, shortning the cable, increasing pressure, and no change. Still goes int OD at about 37 mph. Cruise at 45 mph in OD at 1300 RPM, and lugging. I don't know much about the governor but I'm looking for what to hit next.
I would try a Trans-Go shift kit. In 87 they were still working the bugs out of the AOD transmissions. Try a TSB search on that particular year trans. Look for something related to soft shift complaints.
