I have been retired for 8 years now. Man it does not feel that long! Do I miss it? Yes and No. I miss the camaraderie, but not the deployments.
I'm happy with the camaraderie at the SO and with what I am doing now. No question that I am the man I am due to the experiences of the service.
Besides. My daughter continues the tradition (she is an MK1/E-6 Machinery Technician). I volunteered after 9/11, and they did take back some volunteers, but the volunteers way, way overwhelmed the need - so I didn't get called back. Yet. I would go in a heartbeat if they needed me.
I served in the Air Force from '88-'92. I'm glad I got a chance to serve, and it would be nice to be approaching retirement already, but I'm also happy with the life I've had since then. Military life and married life didn't work together very well for me. 18 years later I've still got the wife and I'm glad I made her my choice.
Now I've got a son that's planning on enlisting next year after finishing school.
I just went over 10 in the Air Force. I now have been selected for E6...So I'm in for the long haul. I have thought about getting out, but it scared the H*ll out me just thinking about it...
For all of those that have done their time..THANK YOU!!!!
