Have the truck and have a 84 ford for a donor vehicle, how much trouble am I going to get in to swap the 63 3 speed to the 84 4 speed, AND I'm thinking of swapping the front and rear ends to get the disc brakes---anyone have any experience ?? torches , welder and a hammer can fix about anything but??????
So you want to put an independent front end in place of your solid axle. Wow, that sounds like a lot of work, and a lot of headache. You'll probably have to change your steering too, but I'm not positive. The rearend would be no problem at all. That's as simple as moving spring and shock perches. For the front end I would recomend finding a 78' or 79' F-150 or Bronco. They have the same front ends, and both have disc brakes. Then you dont have to worry about trying to put on and independent front end. Just my 2 cents.
purchace some new springs for the front of the truck because the org ones are old and wore out
now get a F-250 axle ( i used a 1977 f-250 dana44 HD )
i converted it to 5 hole also
i used axle shafts out of a 1977 f-150 and the spindles and the hubs/roter and all brake parts and brackets
the rear should be a 9 inch ford
i would suggest getting axel shafts out of a 4x4 which have 31 spline
and put a WAR or N housing in it with a new 31 spline carrier
the steering i used was all hand made out of what i had laying around
3 of us built the steering so i dont know all the details on that
i do know i used a 1977 f150 4x4 power steering sector
