I have an 89 Ford Bronco 302. My question is about the A/C. The A/C system was converted to R134 by the previous owner. When the A/C is set to MAX and I hit the gas the A/C stops blowing. When I come off the gas or get to speed it will start blowing. Everything works right when set to MIN A/C all the time. What the heck is going on??!
...When the A/C is set to MAX and I hit the gas the A/C stops blowing.(Mine goes to the defrost vents) When I come off the gas or get to speed it will start blowing. Everything works right when set to MIN A/C all the time...
My '96 does the same thing...searches mention a "check valve", but I'm not sure where that is
The vaccum check valve or the vaccume canister is leaking.
When you engine is accelorating, it creats no vaccume for acelorating and thats when the check valve and canister kicks in.
The canister and check valve should be on the pass. side and the valve shouldnt be far from the canister, you can follow the lines to it.
If you don't have one get a MightyVac and check your vacuum lines. I had a bad hose and a bad check valve. The A/C never quits now. The check valve holds the vacuum on A/C components even though the engine vacuum drops under heavy throttle.
On the passenger side fire wall right above the blower there is an actuator with a white vacuum hose. Check the hose for leaks. I just had the same problem. When I would get to 50 MPG, the air would switch from the panel vents to the floor and defrost vents. I searched and found a thread that said to check the vacuum hose. Mine had a hole in it and I wrapped black tape around it. I took it for a test drive and it's now blowing fine. I'm going to put a new peice of hose over the old one when I get a chance. If it's not the vacuum hose it could be your check valve..
