The evap coil is installed and removed through the engine compartment. I've never tried to remove one with the lines still attached, and I don't think it's possible. The easiest way to get a look at it is probably through the hole where the resistor is installed; in the engine compartment, between the blower motor and accumulator. If you remove the resistor, you should be able to see in there with a flashlight, and maybe an inspection mirror. If the evap coil is plugged with debris, how plugged the heater core is will probably depend on how much you actually use the heat.

Well i took out the blower motor and on the right side of it there is a hole that goes to the evaporator coil you can reach in there if your hand fits and feel a radiator type material. As i put my hand in there i could not see anything but felt all the nasty grime and dirt and hair. I got a flathead screw driver and scraped in there and got about 3 handfuls of stuff out. I used a shop vac and stuffed it in there and cleaned everything up and for not having to take the evaporator out completely to clean it made a pretty noticable difference in the air flow. It can probably be cleaned even more if removed but at least now i can feel air in my backseat and boy you better bring a jacket if i put it on max and highest power. Thanks for the tips!
