Are there any good posts out there on adding air conditioning? Looking for details. I have not found one post out of several searches on this site that has great info.
I have access to complete 79 LTD a.c. system and also out of an 84 f150, so I would have plenty of parts. It is going into a 66 f100 being retrofitted with 302 and c4 tranny.
I want to do it so it works correctly. Not necessarily pretty, but correctly.
I would like to also use the blower system from the 84 truck or ltd and also the respective controls. If that does not pan out, I would use the factory blower and controls with ac controled by toggle switch. Again, i just want ac, not show quality installation. It gets hot in Kansas!
You're probably gonna have more trouble trying to adapt any of the factory stuff to your older truck then it's worth. (the A/C not the truck) You may be able to use the compressor, some of the brackets, and condenser, but the evaporator and all the associated ductwork and controls will be a mess. There's not a lot of room in a 61-66 dash to mount vents anyway. It would be easier to just buy a "hang-on" unit from one of the many suppliers and then use what you can from your donors. The hang-ons don't run near what the big heat/defrost/air units do. Good luck,
Yes, I should have been more specific. Almost any of the aftermarket suppliers have a "hang-on" unit. They're simular to the early Mustang units that hung under the dash in the center. Used to be you could buy one like it at your dealer, Sears, Montgomery Wards, etc.
Anyway, they are about as easy as can be to mount and hook up. In a little truck cab you can hang meat if it's set up right. Check with Vintage Air, Hot Rod Air, Airtique, Southern Air, and others. I'll post some links if I can find em later. Good luck and stay cool! Phil
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Oct-02 AT 06:54 PM (EST)]Here's another I almost forgot. They even have the "factory" units just like Ford and others used. They have TONS of early Mustang units too. They don't have a web site but they sure have an inventory. I went thru thier shop a while back.
