A Miss?

From about a month ago up until this morning, I've had what seemed like a miss. The RPM and speed it occured at was very sporadic. I couldn't recreate the problem. I would usually notice it during slight acceleration. This morning it did it bad and threw a CEL. Unfortunately I wont be able to get it scanned for a few days. Today it has done this "loss of power" every time I started from a stop. Truck starts and idles fine. When it happens, the RPM's do not change (go to zero like they did when my CMP failed 10k ago) and it feels like I completely let off the accelerator even though it's to the floor. Throttle position doesn't seem to matter either (half to full). While moving, I can accelerate just fine throughout the entire throttle range (from 45 to 80 in 5th-6th gear). Just a bit scary when pulling out into traffic and the truck doesn't move!!

Any ideas? Thanks!

The stored SES code will tell you what it is.

I'm betting that if it's doing this from a stop, you're throttle pedal is going out. Welcome to the club, mine has gone out twice. Unfortunately you're over a year late for the recall fix.

My work mechanic is scanning it today. I had a feeling the TPS was going out. Just checking to see if someone had a similar issue.. Thanks! Will report back my findings though..

Problem NOT solved. Had PCM scanned and it pulled up one code. I did not get the number as the mechanic cleared it before I could write it down. But the text said "THROTTLE SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW". Assuming this was the TPS, I replaced it to the cost of $110 and some change. The problem still exists. Truck starts and idles fine, but will not accelerate without multiple hesitations, if at all. Cruise control still seems to work fine though... any other ideas?

I would look at the connection for the ICP (injection control pressure.) I'm sure I got the acronym wrong, it's the sensor on the left cylinder head.
And more so, the connection or the IPR it'self. Injection Pressure Regulator. It's mounted on the backside of the HPOP.
Since you've eliminated the TPS possibility, I would also take a hard look at all the wiring for the TPS. There have been several cases of frayed wiring for the TPS listed here on FTE.

Dan your acronymage looks good to me.

before you go too far spending money or checking sensors, check ALL of your mini fuses under the dash. there was a problem a while ago and i thought it was a TPA (assembly) and that is what i recommended. i made the guy spend $120 on a TPA and come to find out it was a little fuse under his dash.

Kwik, Strokin..
I appreciate your quick responses. I will investigate your ideas and get back to you.. I'm trying like hell to avoid going to the dealer... I'm hoping it's something easy..

One way I look at it, the TPSA needed help anyways. It was full of sand! But I suppose if you wanna play you gotta pay...

Problem solved!
I was able to reproduce the problem over and over again with the new TPSA. So I visually inspected the ICP and IPR sensors and everything looked ok. Then I looked down by the collection of connectors on the drivers side fender well.... where I had spilled some ATF a few weeks ago. I noticed the high pressure line feeding the brake booster had worn through the outter tape of a group of wires. I inspected more closely but didn't notice anything other than clean insulation. I started to tape them up when I looked left and saw another bundle leaning against the drivers side shock tower. I inspected this and found the rubbing had worn through the insulation of two wires, almost three. I taped them up and zip-tied them out of the way and took a test drive.. PROBLEM SOLVED!!
Thanks again for all your help!!

I'll take picts when I do the permanent fix, hopefully to help someone in the future.

Your experience has put a reminder in my head to check that area of my truck just to make sure that there are no problems.
Thanks for letting us know.
