moving to arizona and i want to run cooler so far all i see is the banks techni cooler and hypermax intercooler, which would you use and are there and othe brands or options
ive ran the hypermax in my rig but am going to the spearco intercooler sold by blackclouddiesel and dieselinnovations.
if you get the spearco you will have to make a pipe kit or have one made for you. its pretty simple to have some 3" mandrel bend exaust tubing bend to fit and use a EARLY 99 ypipe, v band clamp for the EARLY 99 and the reducers to go from 2-3/8 to 2"
the other way to get the pipes made is get a set of superduty pipes and get 4 3" mandrel bend 90s that you can get at most exhaust shops. and fit them all up in there and your good to go.
gtspowerstroke makes pipe kits but he is very very unreliable and has communication issues with him especially after he has your money. the last pipe kit i got from him didnt fit worth a smelly brown thing.

You can get an intercooler from a 99+ and use it. I bought all the factory tubes from Ford and some aftermarket clamps and hoses. I couldn't seem to figure out how the factory tube fit on the drivers side...so I rotated it 180 and installed it that way. It came up short about 4" so I turned out a piece of pipe at work and used it(I could have just use a piece of muffler extension). You will need to get the high torque band clamps or they will pop off from the pressure. 160,000 miles later still working like a charm. I think I paid less than 200.00 for the IC and 2 something for the tubes. Probably have 500 into it +my time, which was free, lol.
You will need the "Y" manifold. I forgot all about that. That manifold re-directs the output from the compressor to the intercooler and back to the intake manifold. I also remember having to block some port on that manifold. It's been a long time since I did it. When you sy 'plenium' do you mean the intake manifold? You have to remove the black manifold that exits the compressor and use the new style manifold. I may have had to grind something off the "Y"pipe, but I forgot already. Can't use the "powerstroke" black cover over the fuel filter housing after install either.
It's not a hard job to do. Front end has to come off. Be carefull of the radiator. I had some problems with clearance from the condensor to the radiator and from a hose or bracket that rubbed a hole in my radiator. I missed it on installation and it rubbed for years before it put a hole in the radiator. Just a small oversight.
