I turned 2200 miles on my 06 V10, and went on a trip (470 miles) this week. On the way to the destination, I drove 72-76 mph most of the time, and got 14.1 mpg.
Coming back, I held it at a constant 68 mph, and the fuel savings was very noticeable at 16.4....it did take me an extra 17 minutes to get home....
Next trip I'll try 28 mph and see if I get 60 mpg...ha.
Seriously, I NEVER thought I would see over 16 mpg out of my V10...I am a happy camper....
You know, I had a similar experience with a 400+ round trip last month. I got 16 MPG running between 65-70 MPH. Double checked my calculations. It's by far the best I've ever gotten (usually around 14 MPG on the highway), but then again I usually have a real lead foot in that truck
(2001/F250/v10/2x4/4.10/CC/80100 miles).
Just make sure your manually calculating the mpg. I've heard lots of people say when they did that it was considerably lower than the instrument cluster mpg.
Yep, sounds about right. I had very similar results a month after I had bought my truck. My dad and myself went antolope hunting in the SW part of the state. On the way down he was drilling me about why the V10 is any better than the 460 (He has a 460 in a 96' dually so he's a little defensive) with which I replied that it was cleaner, burned less fuel and has more power, is lighter, and uses many of the same parts as the 5.4. With which he was in denial about the entire time (still is but won't argue about it any more). Well on the way down I was bucking a 30-40mph head wind and I was runiing near 80mph down interstate. when we went to fill up my mileage was 11.1 mpg, which of course from there on I had to listen to him tell me his 460 could get close to that. WE ended up getting both of our antalope on the first day so we left early the next day, since we were't in any hurry, I was easy on the go pedal, and kept the speed down around 65-68mph. It was dads turn to pay for gas, so after we filled up my dad goes did you realize we made 15.6mpg on the way back. I just smiled asked when the last time his 460 has broke 12mpg! I haven't heard much from him since.
and JFYI my truck is a crew cab 4x4 with 285 tires and 3.73s and his is a 2wd dually reg reg box. his wieghs 1000lbs less and is about 1.5ft shorter than mine. needless to say the V10 is deffinitly more efficient.
