Cool help ASAP!!!!

All... i have an urgent question. Please, if anyone can help, is there any other way other than a blown head gasket that engine oil could get into the cooling system???? I have a down payment on an 01 F250 diesel that i'm supposed to pick up tommorrow. They told me that there was a 2" line of some sort going to a tranny cooler that had alot of smaller lines wrapped around it. Some of them broke and sent the oil into the coolant. Sound kooky????? PLEASE let me know asap if i need to look for another truck!!! Thanks, Jeff

I would get that thing checked out by mechanic first. Sound like head type gasket or possible injector thing going on. Im no mechanic but just read things on here about diesel in your coolant and its never very good. My opnion be cautious.

Cool more ideas

I tried to call the dealer and he was out till 7.00pm. I had an idea. Maybe it could be tranny fluid in the coolant. If a tranny cooling line broke inside the radiator, it could get into the coolant. All he said this morning was "oil". He tried the injectors, but they said that wasn't the problem.

The engine oil can get into the coolant throught the oil cooler tube on the side of the block if the orings go bad.

Yes, i would agree with kennedyford, there isnt much of a chance that the headgaskets are leaking oil into the coolant, but the oil cooler wouldent supprise me, they also can leak internally if the coolant has eaten a hole through the tube, but check the color, if its tranny fluid it needs a radiator, and check the tranny too! it may have gone the other way, and water in a tranny is not good at all.

The trannys do not cool through the radiator in our diesels unless someone ran a new line from the tranny cooler to the radiator and back out again.

Thanks for the posts! Keep 'em comin!!! I agree that if it's tranny fluid, i'd need a radiator. I just noticed "fingers" of something oozing down the sides of the coolant bottle on the top of the motor. It was dark colored, but it didn't click with me then what the problem could be. I'm calling him soon to see just what the ford dealer did to the truck. The 1st question will be what kind of oil leaked out? Thanks, Jeff

O the pressure is higher on the oil side and you will not have water in the engine unless a head blew. If the oil is soupy mud its a head gasket, oil pushed into the radiator is high pressure and 99 percent sure that is the oil cooler. There is 2 o rings that if not placed correctly will leak oil to coolant. Not a big deal, just a pain. No stealership will do a good job must go to real teck.

oh i thought the trannys cooled in the radiator just like a 6.0l and a torque shift, i guess i should have looked at mine, but i always thought they did.

Depends on the year. My 2000 has both transmission oil to coolant and transmission oil to air coolers.

Id like to see pics of that. The trannys have their own cooler on all of our trucks. I have never seen any that cool tranny fluid through the radiator. The 6.0 also cool through a separate tranny cooler. Im confused. So here is what we have my 00, moms 01, uncles 00 and dad 04 and NONE cool the tranny through the radiator.ahhhh ford mixes it up......

I think kennedyford has this one right. The oil cooler is bad. I have changed lots of oil coolers gone bad on semi-trucks and cat equipment. We would change the oil cooler and then after draining cooling system fill the cooling sys with water and some cascade dishwashing soap (no suds I guess). Run engine at normal operating temp for little while then drain by pulling bottom hose off. Repeat untill You think all the oil is out of cooling system.

That makes perfect sense. I'm going there today to talk things over. I'll ask him about the oil cooler being bad. I'm anxious to see what he says and what he said they did to "fix" the problem!

I'd post a pic but I broke my digital camera yesterday. If I remember correctly I think the oil to water cooler was included as part of either the camper package or towing package (or maybe both). It didn't go on all pickups.
