Keyless Entry System

I have a 2002 F-250 Super Crew with a V-10 gas engine and the original battery went bad. I replaced the battery and ever since then several things are not working and I believe they are all connected to the same problem. The keyless entry won't work, the Door ajar light is on all the time, the dome light and stereo will not shut off automaticlly and the electronic door locks will not work and have to be locked manually. Can anyone give Me a clue as to what might be wrong before I take in to Dealer.

There should be a very simple and cheap solution to your problem. I had this EXACT issue about a week ago. Believe it or not, it has nothing to do with your battery (I think). It sounds more like your door switches. Every SD I have had has had this same problem. Pull the truck in the garage and give each door switch a good LIBERAL bath in WD40. There is no "work" associated with it, just open the door and thoroughly soak the latch (where it hits the Nader pin, or loop (ext. cab)). Then open and close the doors numerous times. If this does not work, soak the switches again (and I mean SOAK them), then go inside, have a beer, watch TV, etc.....try them again in 15-30 minutes. I would try this a few times before taking it to the dealer and having them throw parts at it (I learned the hard way with my '00....$8 part, and $200 in labor!)

Good luck....let us know if it works.

I was starting to think that it might not have anything to do the battery repacment also and that it was just a coinsident. I wiil try your advice this evening. Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated

I had the same thing happen after having to jump start my truck due to a very dead battery. I tried the WD40 thing and it didn't do anything. Then I took it to the dealer and the first thing they suggested was the WD40.

It ended up being the vehicle security module. It think it controls the keyless entry and the door ajar.

How much did the VSM replacement cost you. Did you replace it yourself or did the dealer do it.
Thanks for your reply.

I have an extended warranty so it cost me $50. I'm not sure what it would have been without the warranty.

The dealer said their computer didn't even recognize there was a VSM and it was due to all the wiring from the aftermarket alarm. They said they needed the alarm removed and the wiring back to factory spec. The alarm installer took out the brain and returned it to spec. He also did a lot of trouble shooting and was actually the one who determined it was the VSM. The dealer computer didn't recognize the VSM was there probably because it wasn't getting any power.
