I am wondering what manifold intakes will fit my 400? it has a two barrel on it now and I want to put a four barrel on it. Will a intake for a 289 or 302 work?
Lol, no. The 400 intake is almost twice the size of a 289. Edelbrock and others make 4v intakes for the 400. There is no stock 4v intake for the 400. You can use a 351C intake with special spacers, but I'd still get a 400 intake. Fewer gaskets mean fewer leaks.
I have that engine and just installed a Weiand Action Plus on it. I used that because i'm using a Holley 4150 carb which has a square bore. The Edelbrock Performer would be best if you are using a spread bore such as a Rochester or Holley (3357/6711) double pump.
and if you need to keep EGR, the Edelbrock 3771 is the ONLY choice, as far as I know.
some folks prefer it to the 2771 (non-egr) version even if not using EGR, as it has a bigger carb-mounting surface making leak-prevention a little easier...
