I have a power window kit from ***** rod and kustom and i need to find out to what to cut the regulator down to and the stupid instructions are no help
run it all the way down, put the glass in place in the holder even with the bottom of the frame, that sets the lower position. Now cut it no shorter than the height of the glass so the glass can go all the way up. There are some pictures in my "making changes gallery that show my PW install. I ended up cutting mine just at the top of the upper mount, but the actual position will depend on your particular regulator. As long as you have enough length to get full travel the actual length isn't real critical.
PS: at least you got instructions with yours, mine came with nothing.
IMHO brands make little difference, they are pretty much all made overseas and rebox "branded". There are basically three different design units out there: 1. looks like a T square with a motor at the bottom with a tail. These are driven by a flexible worm or gears. The glass mounts in a carrier (the cross of the T) and rides up and down the main upright. It entirely replaces the OEM regulator. This is the type I used and are very rugged and dependable and inexpensive. This unit does require you to figure out your own mounting system and trim it for length to fit in the door. (not difficult if you have some mechanical skills and basic tools) 2. pulley replaces the OEM crank handle and a belt or cable connects it to the motor pulley, it simply changes the source of the cranking power from hand to electric. These use the original regulator so depend on the condition of the regulator for proper operation, not a very elegant system IMHO.
3. direct replacement powered regulator. These are designed to bolt in in place of the OEM regulator using the original attachment points and work similarly except powered. This is an all-in-one variation of #2 which eliminates the belt drive (good) and includes all new regulators (also good) that eliminate the original crank handle shaft and difficulty with upholstery #2 might give. Biggest negative is the cost is 3-4X #1 or 2.
All require some form of a wire loom to pass wiring across the door jamb into the door that is not included in the kits.
