these boards are amazing! I have always used POR15 (rust paint) and MetalReady (Converter) and have never heard of Picklex, OSPHO, RustBullet or Corroseal until now - I gotta try them - the POR15 is EXPENSIVE!

I stand corrected I used the eastwoods rust converter last year...Nice. with 2 coats of rust bullet...Rust bullet by itself over rust is useless. I learned the hard way. On sandblasted bare metal its amazing..

I used to live on the Texas coast, and I swore by it. Just make sure you get the large chunks of rust off first.

I've used Ospho on my old International truck with great results. I ordered it from Hamilton Marine. KBS Coating makes a similar product called Rust Blast. The way to use these products is to remove as much rust as possible with a grinder, then use the product. After it is ready for paint, prime it and then top coat.

The active ingredient in Ospho and many other converters is phosphoric acid. Jasco can be found at any home improvement store, about $8 a quart. I have used it many times, but requires cleaning after it dries. Eastwoods Rust converter is expensive, but you can shoot right over it with no other steps. I shot Chassis Black directly over it, no primer, three years ago on my Bronco frame and no sign of rust yet.

I'm swapping in a D60 into my OBS F250. I don't want a show truck restoration, but want to mimic the factory black "pickled" finish to about %50 accuracy. I've pressure washed it, don't mind hitting it with a wire brush and a few cans of brake cleaner, but that is about all the prep I plan to do. Any suggestions?

Looks like a quick wash in phosphoric acid and then rattle can of black semi gloss rustoleum will do the trick?

i pressure wash the rust flake off. then follow up with a wire brush to get anything the pressure washer missed.
then one or two coats of ospho, usually 2-3 days apart. once it is all dry and flat black.
then a good coat of rustoleum red oxide primer, followed by 2-3 coats of rustoleum industrial gloss black. i cut the paint and thinner with acetone.

i have done at least 20 frames this way over the past 15 years, and never had any come back .
the 88 pickup frame was done this way about 5years ago now, and still looks like it was just done yesterday.
