Fram boost air intake?

Has anyone installed one of these on the 6.0?
It has a dry filter and that seems to be a good
choice for both dirt and flow, but I can't find any
pictures of the installed unit to see if it's unshrouded
like some of the aftermarket intakes are or if it has
a shield or box around it.

A. It's a Fram.
B. It's not as good on dirt as the stock Donaldson.
C. The stock Donaldson is not a restriction issue in anything but the most heavily modified PSDs.
D. It's sucking hot underhood air.

Why would you want to buy one again?

Yes I too am curios about that. Does it just suck in warm air from under the hood? Cause as far as I know warm air is a no no.

I'm wholeheartedly in tvsjr's corner on this one.

Aftermarket parts aren't always better. And, given their advertising budgets, human nature takes over....leaving you wondering if the grass is really greener on the other side.

I say stick with the stock air intake. I think air intakes are the biggest scam since the 'tornado fuel save'.

Even on regular gas engines they make no more power than is in the error on multiple runs.

If you are wanting to get it because of the 'you get what you pay for' mentality, go price out a new donaldson for your truck. It will make you feel MUCH better.

I'm not saying the stock unit isn't a good unit, I actually have been buying my replacement donaldson filters through a local heavy equipment supplier because I believe their products are well proven, and have worked well for me. I'm just curious when these new and not so new products come out what other people think of them and what kind of results they might be getting or think they are getting.

If you want to keep dirt out of your engine (which is the whole reason for the air filter), keep the stock filter.

Here's a link to an interesting article about this subject. Is a question posted on another forum and is about normally aspirated engines but the message should still be pertinent to our PSDs. The author goes on about air flow influences and as I understand it, the biggest monster (or the biggest opportunity) is actually the air box. Has anyone experimented with a stock Donaldson filter and modified air intake system? If you follw this link, scroll down to the question that begins : What's the difference between a stock airbox, a short ram system (open intake filter), or a CAI (Cold Air Intake)?...
