First off let me start by saying thank you to all of you who post anything in the feed.
I have a 2006 F250 x-cab, longbed, Turbo-psd 6.0, Auto-trans.
As far as anything major goes the truck is stock. Any up grades i've done to "little boy blue" has been mostly for looks or to help it last longer (gallery). I must state that I am a virgin when it comes to Diesels. Some of you may have already read about my other 2 prior fords so i wont go into those, needless to say they were both gas trucks.
Moving on. Some of the things im thinking about doing to the truck are as follows: ( I may get the terms to some of the following items wrong. please forgive me if I do. thanks)
1. Roof/front window visor w/ lights.
2. Roof light bar ( probibly 4 lights with fold down capability)
3. Bushwacker fender "extentions"
4. 2" sus-lift and 3" body lift
5. some type of "chip" for better performance (and what ever else may need to fall into that catigory to assist with that)
6. Deep rims with aplicable tires ??
7. auto start/alarm system
8. spray on bed liner
Off the top of my head these are the major things that i want to do to the truck. But!!! not necessarly in that order. I guess what I'm asking for is Ideas on brands, best deals, have you done this to your truck and what did you like or not like, and anything else you can sugest??????? These things will not all happen over night but as i can.. i wll add them accordingly. Again thanks for any help or advise you can give to an amature like me.
Definitely with a chip or tuner, get an exhaust. Exhaust gas temps are very important and you definitely want to try to keep them as low as you can and an exhaust will help you with that. Also guages to monitor these items are highly recommended. I have the banks 6 gun bundle with PDA and love it. A good alarm is a good idea and the remote start is very nice. Also some of these have turbo timers with them so you can cool your turbo down before shutting it down. I have a 4" suspension lift with 35's under there. I like this lift as it is not too much to restrict me off road but it is high enough to be effective. Hope this is a start for you.
Danny,
thanks again for the reply.. ill start checking this stuff out.

Definately the In Channel Vent Shades are a nice addition. I hated taking a bath in the rain with the window cracked open.
You don't want a body lift....
Max,
why not a body lift?? I was told by someone (a friend) that a body lift would keep it "more balanced" is that true.. what is that advantage from one to the other. thanks.
JoryLee
Body lifts separate the body from the frame. They don't lift the chassis at all. They can make the body move around, puts more stress on the body mounting bolts, and basicly look like crap.
Also you'll have fan shroud issues as the rad/shroud is usually attached to the body and the engine is attached to the frame. Oh and bumper alignment issues, etc, etc.
In short-Suspension lifts might be a little more expensive up front, but you might break even with all the other mods you have to do. Not to mention that your truck will look better.
I have to agree with Danny on all the stuff, and I really have to agree with Max and BLK150, body lifts SUCK!! I have lifted 90-100 trucks over the last 22 years, including roughly 30 SD's of our vintage (99-06) and I would NEVER use a body lift on my personal truck, or anything my friends or family would drive.
Well sounds like the body lift is out the door. thanks for all the input on that. Like i said before i think i came with a 2 or 3 inch factory lift, so ill probly just go with a 4" lift and call it good. Jorylee
They don't make body lifts for diesels anyway. As far as suspension you might as well go with a 4 or 6" lift. I have the pocket style fenders on my rig and love it. Look on the lift post, you can get a lot of ideas from there.

i guess the next question i have then, is? with a 4" or 6" lift, what would be better? mind you i want to add bushwacker fender flairs and deepdish rims. so would 36's or 38's be better and anyone with advise for brands of tires. Little Boy Blue is a daily driver and wont be going off road all the time. so i want tires that will be better for rain snow ect.... but good in the mud when he gets a chance to play?? thanks for the help and advise ????
If I were to lift again, I would go with a four inch lift with 35's. If ya go with a six or eight inch lift you need at least 37's, then comes the issue with gas mileage, my 8 inch lift with 37's took my mpg from 14 down to 10. Also with bigger tires there is the gearing and shifting issues, and not to mention possible factory warranty issues, there is alot to keep in mind when lifting your truck, so take your time and weigh your options.
As far as tires, Nitto terra grapplers are a good all-terrain, If you want mud terrain I like the toyo M/T's, they are quite on the road unlike the Nitto Mud grapplers.
Body lifts are late 1970's stuff we used. Suspension lifts have evolved into a tuning tool. Spring rate and shock selection is at an all time high for choices. You can go Extreme or leveling like I did.
Gears....with bigger tires like 36's you'll be needing gears. This is one factor most guys never put into the equation when lifting a truck.

well i definatly dont want to go extreme, but i do want some higth. something that will look "sexy" going down the road, and off the road. oh and thanks for the heads up on the gears. thats another thing i need to find out about my truck. what the build date is, location, gears and so on.
I'd go 4 inch lift with 35s. My buddy had a 2000 with that setup and it looked great. Even when he went to 305s, it still looked great and drove well. With 6.0 having almost 100 more HP than a 2000 7.3, it should perform well too.
Mike
Edit: Unless they have been changed, you should have 3.73:1 gearing.
