Hey Guys bought my first bronco the other day. 78 ranger xlt. Not that bad of shape seats are rip a little one dent in the back coner panel. race track chrome is there and paint isnt all that bad. Runs pretty good. Got a leaky vavle cover but no smoke good oil pressure and drives. I paid 800 for it. I want to change a few things and wanted to see what you guys thought. It has 235 75 15 tires on it and they look so small. It has aluimimn mags which the guy said came stock on it. but they kind of suck up under the truck a little and I dont really care for the look. So I thought about buying some white spoked wheels to put on it but 16s because I got a set of 265 75 16 toyo AT and they are in great shape I like the size tire and think it would look good on my Bronco with a little off set and 10 in wheels. White spokes because there cheap. Wish I could afford some nice ones but maybe another time. Then I thought about the Summit headers with droping the exhaust into purple hornies with turn outs it would be 3 in but I think I would loose to much tourqe that way. But I like the sound and looks of it. well there is a few ideas of mine any opinions are welcome.
Sounds like a great deal!
I love the 78 79 broncos, and for $800 in good condition!!!
Personally I don't like 16" wheels, but they would work for you. The 265s should look pretty good too.
I have a set of the summit headers, and they work great, expecially for $90.
The purple hornies would work, but personally I'd rather true duals with the smallest possible glass packs backwards with some chrome tips at the end.
White spokes look great when new, but when they get old and paint chips... they start to look kind of bad. BUT since you'd mostly be using them for the 265s you alread have, you could get some new 15s after the 265s wear out.
Yeah I put a couple of pics on, I had a hard time doing it to but I got it. Yeah my budget is so tight it makes it hard to get anything done. I got ideas on what i would do if I had the money. but for now the budget is the plan.
The list would go on and on if my budget didnt have a end, but over the next couple of years I am planning to put in my 400 I got in my back yard after a good rebuild. then some interior work. I am really want to get the 400 in nothing major to it just a new timing set, headers and intake. I already have a brand new edlebrock 750 preformer so that is the carb I will use. I dont know how much difference that will make in power compared to the 351m that is stock in it now. Anybody know if there will be a real noticable difference in a mild 400 and a stock 351m? I just keep thinking that horsepower wise it wouldnt even be 100. but I dont really know.
The 750 carb is a bit over kill for a mild built 400, but if you don't open up the secondarys often and have it tuned right, then it'd be ok.
A stock 351M would put out about 140 hp and about 260 fl lbs of torque.
A 400 with new double roller timing chain, mile RV cam and lifters(since you'd already have it torn down enough, why not finish the build and get even more power), intake manifold and carb, and headers, and it'd be pushing at least 250 hp, and 380 or alittle more ft lbs. of torque. Now if you bumped up your compression to 9.5:1 with some flat top badger pistons, with same mods, then you'd be looking at 330ish hp, and 450ish ft lbs.
the 330 and 450 numbers would be nice to see but dont know if I would have much use for them, Yeah I got a 78 ranger 2wd that my dad gave to me, he pulled the 351m a long time ago and shoved in a mirror 105 390 into it and we thought oringanily that is would 60 over but it is just 40 but it has a big cam race heads and true duals so I bought the 750 for it since it had a 850 holley double pumper now that was way over kill. but yeah now I wish I bought the 600 or somthing a little smaller but live and learn maybe later I can sell it for decent and buy another one.
