I can't believe the unreasonable expectation among many car owners today that an engine should consume no oil between changes. One or even two quarts in a 5000 mile drain interval is NORMAL. Yes, there are some GM, and Nissan, and probably others that use "low tension" rings for decreased friction. Unless they screw up, like the Altima four cylinder that burns a quart in as little as 700 miles, dont worry.
Dad's old flathead Ford V-8 used a quart every 500, and that was considered good in its day. I have to add a quart of straight 50 to the Cessna every 10 operating hours, no big deal.

I couldn't have said better, I call bulls**t on anyone who says their vehicle never burns a little oil. Every truck and car I have ever owned used oil between changes and I have covered almost every make out there except a Chevy.....which of coarse i am very proud of.

Two quarts in 5K? Your normal and mine are totally different.........
My 30 year old 302 only uses about 1/2 qt between oil changes - don't drive it much so that is prob 1-2k miles - I change it atleast 3 times per year. I think 2 qts in 3k is excessive.
no bad is my 300 pre-rebuild, no noticeable smoke out the pipe used a qt every 2days of going to school round trip 16miles a day..........but it ran great, had power, and all. pulled the head to fix it, and #4 and #6 were covered in fresh oil. and only had 30lbs of compression.
now i rebuilt it, it uses none between changes, i have 2k on my 15w40 Rotella and it is still golden. 5k on the motor.
