Ok – here’s the question…why is it the 67 to 72 Chevy is more popular than the 67 to 72 Ford? I mean, when I was looking for a classic to restore the Ford drives and feels so much more like a truck than the Chevy, and the Chevy’s cost about twice as much, why would any body want the Chevy? But because their more popular, it seems you can get lots more cool aftermarket parts for the Chevy. Why is that?
If the chevy's seem more plentiful in your area I won't argue but most places the Fords of that vintage way out number the chevy's if you just look at what is on the road. I don't think you will find any shortage of aftermarket or restoration parts for the Ford if you research a little. Chevy did have the jump on Ford with front disc brakes on the 1/2 ton and in dash air, power windows ect. Ford was a little more of a work oriented truck than chevy then, and a lot of those old Fords are still working. Not many of the chevys are.
I'm a Ford man and I love the (3) 67-72 trucks I've owned. However, I have to admit that those years of Chevy's are good looking trucks. Certainly, better looking than just about any other year of Chevy in my opinion.
I think in most years, Ford has sold more trucks, probably many more in some years. That just makes them easier to find, and less expensive than the comparable year Chevy's.
Many of those year Chevy's are also set up for the 327/350 engines , which make for an affordable build up.
I used to own a '80 Chev K10, 8" lift, 38's, loaded to the nine's. Problem is, it looked like everyone else's K10. Now my 67, F100 well that's a different story, not too many people have one of those. That's what makes it cooler than a chev.
I think Chevys are just part of yet another yuppie fad. Sure as a whole, they do tend to be more expensive. As parts- they are CHEAP.
The demand by the yuppies is high so they jack up the cost of the total rig. But parts are cheap and plentiful- maybe because they don't last and it's GM's way of trying to keep Chevy owners happy (greasing a squeaky wheel).
This is funny. A "friend" of mine is a pro wakeborder and is rich as all get out. He bought a 69 Chevy stepside, and got it painted signal yellow and blue flames, custom interior, oak bed, the works. A darn nice looking truck. You would really have to know the kid to fully appreciate how yuppie he is. Anything mentioned about a piston engine brings up his master plan of a blower and "naws"(I HATE that word) that will make it to his old, tired, smog era 350 that he thinks is bad because *he* put in a cam(yeah right, and I built the space station) , and how he is going to do this and that, and how he is going crusing with his homies and going to see "fast and furious". But he wrecked it a while back and it was like that snickers commercial "want an even more satisfying crunch?". Now he can't find a grill or hood. Now that I got that out of my system, I really do like the looks of those trucks and would take a 67-72 ford or chevy over a new truck of the same class. (04 f-series exempt- gotta wait to see one in person)
