Here's a recipe for a custom steering column:
3 parts '78 F-250 column (steering shaft, turn signal switch and upper piece)
1 part '75 F-500 school bus turn signal switch mount
1 slightly used swather canvas idler roller tube
1 swather roller bearing (it's about 1/16 bigger than the steering shaft but that is a lot tighter than the stock plastic bushing)
Dash of fiberglass
Pinch of body putty
Splash of paint (this isn't the final colour as this is the only color I had left)
I always enjoy your updates. I fully appreciate that you are making the most out of the parts that you have available to you and your own ingenuity.
I to am building on a budget (great way to say that I don't have a dime) I think anyone can grab a catalog and order all the parts they need. It takes a special talent to fabricate what is needed.
That looks great dueller and it's not a GM column!
I agree with Bobby,I do a lot of my own fabricating from crap nobody wants or is going to pitch.I am polishing a set of 302 EFI valve covers because I don't have the 200-300 dollars to buy them from Ford motorsports . Keep up the good work and be sure to post your progress.
