TURBO shut down time?
I was wondering with all of the discussion about turbo failures and problems, if any one had a set amount of time before shutting down the engine after towing. I have heard of some vehicles that had a timer onboard that would chime when the temperature was or should be ok for a shutdown. The manual doesn't say much, so I thought maybe I could get some idea as to when others out there shut down after towing an RV. Down the highway and pulling into a rest area I usually wait for a few minutes before turning it off. If I am going into a campground usually the road is slow going and takes a few minutes to get to the check in area so am I right to assume that the engine would be OK to shut down then? I ask for any opinions on this because I hope to avoid any turbo problems that may be brought on by bearing overheating. As always you guys have the answers and FTE is the place to get them. THANKS

You are right the manual doesn't say much about cooldown time, I think that it says 7 to 10 minutes, but I usually wait longer when I am pulling and am at my destination. Rest areas I leave it run and we take turns running in. Normal everyday driving I try to wait for a few minutes but if I'm pressed for time I don't.
