Started my '67 F-100 today, and out of the blue, I had a rough runner. No power, erratic RPM, charge indicator sweeping from D-to-C and back. Drove 2 miles, shut it down for 40 minutes, then she drove home fine. Solid ride as usual, but gauge still up and down. Do I have a bad alternator or wiring to the unit or what? Thanks in advance!
What you have there is a electrical phenomenon.
I would first have the alternator checked before replacing the regulator, don't want to let the smoke out of another regulator.
